Stepping out the Boat

superwoman syndrome2In a couple of weeks, I won’t have my big girl job anymore.

No, I didn’t get fired.

I resigned.

Life was coming at me a little too fast and I needed to slow down.

So much of my writing portfolio is about my public face.

Well, this is my chance to get real with you all.

I want to let you into some of the messier parts of me.

The parts of me that I’m learning how to not only live with, but to love fiercely.

This is going to be quite a ride, but I’m ready!

I’ll share as much as I feel led to share with you all.

If you haven’t heard of “Superwoman Syndrome” before, let me explain it to you.

It’s basically this notion that women feel obliged to take on the weight of the world without asking for help.

We want to do everything perfectly.

We don’t want anyone to catch us crying because we’ll feel weak.

The list goes on and on.

I’ve taken on these traits subtly over the course of my life and I’m honestly tired of it.

We are human!!

This doesn’t just affect black women or Christian women, both of which I identify as.

It affects us all.

When I wrote my popular post, “How I Saved $10K in One Year,” I didn’t think I would turn around and have to end up using those savings to support myself through this transition.

But here we are.

I hope that as I share my story, you can find the strength to share yours, too.

Thank you for walking through this journey with me.
